GRID STEP. You can print out the base construction lines and start drawing on tracing paper, or you can draw the grid layout yourself using the following steps.1) Draw the upper border for the figure. 2) From the upper border, moving downward, tentatively determine the position of the head and draw an oval to represent its conditional size. 3) Draw a vertical line through the middle of the head. This will be the central vertical line of the figure. 4) From the upper border of the figure, draw seven identical segments equal to the height of the head and one segment equal to one-third the height of the head. The last segment will act as the lower boundary of the figure. Through the boundaries of the segments, draw horizontal lines. 5) From the central vertical line of the figure, measure and draw: • Two segments equal to the width of the head – to the left of the line. • One segment equal to half the width of the head – to the left of the line. • One segment equal to the width of the head – to the right of the line. • One segment equal to three-quarters the width of the head – to the right of the line. Through the boundary of each segment, draw vertical lines. The extreme left and right segments will act as the vertical boundaries of the figure.

STEP 1. Mark off the width and height of the picture. Define the general proportions of Iron Man. Draw guidelines for his head and body and lines to define the places for his shoulders, chest and waist.

STEP 2. Draw guidelines for his arms, legs, chest and head.

STEP 3. Define the shape of the body, neck and helmet proportions.

STEP 4. With light lines, draw Iron Man’s arms and legs. Pay attention to the shape of the neck armor.

STEP 5. Draw trousers, the hands, a mask and the lower parts of the helmet. Define some new costume details. Add guidelines for fingers.

STEP 6. Delineate the hands and additional details of Iron Man’s costume.

STEP 7. Work on the figure of Iron Man, paying special attention to details.

STEP 8. Contour, trying to vary the thickness and blackness of the line. Draw more details. Delineate the floor. Erase all guidelines.
